Hexagram 52 Line 3: 九三
Position: Line 3 (Lower Trigram)九三 —Yang ⚊ (Solid)Register: dangerFamous Line
Classical Chinese Text
九三 艮其限。列其夤。厲熏心。
艮其限。列其夤
Wilhelm Translation
Keeping his hips still. Making his sacrum stiff. Dangerous. The heart suffocates.
Commentary
Keeping the hips still, making the sacrum stiff. Dangerous—the heart suffocates. This is enforced quiet: the restless heart subdued by forcible means. But fire smothered changes into acrid smoke. In meditation and concentration, don't try to force results. Calmness must develop naturally out of inner composure; artificial rigidity leads to unwholesome results.
