Hexagram 2 Line 2: 六二

Kun The Receptive

Position: Line 2 (Lower Trigram)六二 Yin ⚋ (Broken)Register: blamelessFamous Line

Classical Chinese Text

六二 直方大。不習无不利。

直方大

Wilhelm Translation

Straight, square, great. Without purpose, Yet nothing remains unfurthered.

Commentary

Straight, square, great—without special purpose, yet nothing remains unfurthered. The circle is heaven's symbol, the square is earth's. Nature creates all beings without erring: this is its squareness. It tolerates all creatures equally: this is its greatness. You achieve wisdom when all you do is as self-evident as what nature does.
