He who does not give duration to his character Meets with disgrace. Persistent humiliation.
Commentary
Not giving duration to your character meets with disgrace. Persistent humiliation follows. If you remain at the mercy of moods—hope or fear aroused by the outer world—you lose inner consistency. These humiliations come from unforeseen quarters, but they aren't random: they're logical consequences of your own volatility.
