Hexagram 23 Line 6: 上九
Position: Line 6 (Upper Trigram)上九 —Yang ⚊ (Solid)Register: blamelessFamous Line
Classical Chinese Text
上九 碩果不食。君子得輿。小人剝廬。
碩果不食
Wilhelm Translation
There is a large fruit still uneaten. The superior man receives a carriage. The house of the inferior man is split apart.
Commentary
A large fruit remains uneaten. When misfortune has spent itself, better times return. The seed of the good remains—it is just when the fruit falls to the ground that new growth sprouts from its seed. The wise person receives a carriage while the inferior person's house splits apart. Evil destroys itself; the good endures.
